626 special trains being operated from today for the event
South Central Railway (SCR) will operate 626 special
trains from August 11 to 24 for the Krishna Pushkarams. Besides, the
East Coast Railway is planning to run 36 more trains for the event,
according to SCR General Manager Ravindra Gupta.
Double-decker
trains from Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati would be operated
for the river festival. Of the total number of trains, 480 are
unreserved and passengers can make current bookings for their journey,
the General Manager said at a press conference here on Wednesday.
Mr. Gupta inaugurated the Krishna Pushkarams website and released the time-table for the event.
Railways
made arrangements at 13 stations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for
the pushkarams. Additional ticket counters, inquiry terminals, drinking
water, toilets, and other facilities were made with Rs. 35 crore. SCR
spruced up Vijayawada, Krishna Canal Junction, Madhuranagar, Gunadala,
Rayanapadu, Guntur, Vishnupuram, Pondugula, Mangalagiri, Repalle,
Peddakurapadu, Krishna, and Gadwal stations for the pushkarams. About
2,600 additional staff would be deployed in Vijayawada to meet the
situation.
As many as 107 additional booking
counters, 34 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines, 69 catering outlets, 903
drinking water tanks, 62 wheelchairs, 488 additional toilets would be
provided at the identified stations.
